ABSTRACT

The rise of technological adoption of video-based information distribution accelerated by the COVID-19 pandemic leads to a substantial increase in video streaming on-demand service users. Video streaming services such as Twitch, and YouTube have enormous amount of active users so the system developers need to develop a system capable of handling numerous requests. The increase of video streaming on-demand service users poses a challenge for system developers to guarantee the Quality of Experience (QoE) for all system users. Said surge of users also resulted in high resource usage to serve each user while securing QoE. In order to ensure the QoE on video streaming on-demand service, this work develops the system using the waterfall model that implements a distributed approach for the video streaming service system. The system has reverse proxy and load balancing capabilities to forward and equally distribute HTTP requests and uses DASH to segment the video file to stream the video without sending the whole file. The developed system for this work subjectively ensures the QoE with a mean opinion score (MOS) of 4.434 from 53 respondents. © 2022 IEEE.

ABSTRACT

Our society is a complex network of people that requires cooperation and socialization to thrive, being that interaction and communication between individuals have been key parts of our society since the beginning of its existence. With the rise of the Covid-19 pandemic and the need to quarantine, this complex need has been truly affected on many sectors, and we became less connected. Technology was an important factor during the early days of the pandemic, with people starting to opt for certain systems and platforms that allowed them to stay in touch with each other, however nowadays, there are still massive limitations to these platforms when it comes to an interaction's ambiance due to the lack of user immersion. In this paper, we present an MMORPG with a scalable infrastructure able to host events for hundreds of people, but most importantly that allows users to communicate in a more realistic manner with a set of functionalities that fulfil the goal to combat the undesirable isolation. To verify the effectiveness of our platform, questionnaires, and usability tests were conducted. © 2022 ACM.

ABSTRACT

Currently, as COVID-19 spreads around the world, epidemic prevention departments from different provinces and regions often need to carry out cross-regional cooperation. In the paper, some new office platforms based on some office needs of the joint prevention and control work are tried to build. In the paper, the platforms built is capable of visualizing the risk map of regional risks, covering a multi-segment integrated joint prevention and control collaborative business platform system of the CDC, customs, relevant medical institutions and health tracking management departments. For the staff in each business link, they can access the data of cases, close contacts and key health tracking objects through the platform. Based on the work, it's necessary to print relevant certificates online, and at the same time, they also supplement the business data of the link to the data chain, providing better information services for improving the efficiency of joint prevention and control. In the process of making an analysis of the business needs, it is found that when building the platform, it will face problems such as many functional modules, variable demand, and too large amount of concurrency at a certain time. In the paper, the implemented architecture techniques would be explained, the details of the key technology implementation adopted by micro-services in realizing the platform would be clarified, and the significance of the platform to the epidemic prevention work would be finally discussed. © 2021 IEEE.

ABSTRACT

In recent years, promoting the synergy and intelligence of social governance, and improving the social governance system of co-construction, co-governance and sharing are important development directions for the country. As a production factor, data plays an increasingly critical role in social governance. How to realize the secure query, collaborative management, and intelligent analysis of multi-party massive data is the key issue to improve the effectiveness of social governance. In major public events such as the prevention and control of the COVID-19, distributed social governance faces low computing efficiency, poor multi-party credible coordination, and difficult decision-making for complex tasks. In response to the above challenges, this study proposes on big data based distributed social governance intelligent system based on secure multi-party computing, blockchain technology, and precise intelligence theory. The proposed system can support various applications of social governance that provide decision-making support for the improvement of social governance in the new era. © Copyright 2022, Institute of Software, the Chinese Academy of Sciences. ABSTRACT

The impact on public emergencies such as COVID-19 has created a greater disconnect from producers and consumers, which has also put pressure on economic growth. Distributed systems can create sustainable development by connecting individual production units and sharing resources between them. Based on the investigation of agricultural products of Qihe County, the distributed system theory and product service system design method are applied to analyze the needs of consumers, producers and their stakeholders of local agricultural products. With the help of small-scale interconnected regional production units, a distributed subsystem based on the characteristics of its own agricultural products is established. Through the design of agricultural products brands, traceable agricultural products safety system and agricultural products online sales APP, the production and sales forms can be flexibly adjusted to increase online purchasing and offline experience forms. Finally, it solves the pain points of users, adds local cultural elements, improves the added value of agricultural products, enhances the income of farmers, improves the quality of life of urban residents, and promotes the sustainable development of economy, society and environment. © 2021 IEEE.
